I shot a 'Choice Tables' piece in Chengdu for The New York Times. Click on the slideshow and take a 'mini tour' of a few of Chengdu's culinary hotspots.
It was an interesting selection, starting with the high end creations of ZiFi a super swank hang out for Chengdu's well off.
Below is a shot of the entrance. Yes, those sculptures are real Ming Dynasty pieces so extra points for me for not knocking anything over.
A private dining room (actually all the dining rooms are private).
Below a simple persimmon desert.
The next stop was Gingko. Bright and a little less 'exclusive'.Not necessarily my type of hang out but nice food in a well managed setting.
But in the end I'm a man of simple tastes so my fav was Yang Yang. Below, deep fried intestine with fragrant chili. We'll post more on Yang Yang and other Chengdu goodies on this blog. Stay tuned.
